Framework is a northern provider to Like Minds, Like Mine, through a contract with the Ministry of Health to provide a mental health access radio programme on PlanetFM 104.6. This Like Minds initiative is a joint venture between the Ministry and Framework, which has run for more than 18 years and has won several awards.

Called "Take It From Us", the show is hosted by people with lived experience of mental distress, and is a voice for the mental health sector, involving a range of consumers, peer support workers and representatives of mental health. It broadcasts every Tuesday at 12.30 pm on Planet FM. Tune in to hear "Take It From Us" every Tuesday on 104.6FM or listen on www.planetaudio.org.nz/takeitfromus.

Like Minds is a national project to counter stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness.

Aims

• To enable all people with experience of mental illness to gain equality and respect and to enjoy the same rights as others.
• To change public and private sector policy to value and include all people with experience of mental illness.
• To create greater understanding, acceptance and support for all people with experience of mental illness

• To advocate for non-discriminatory polices and practices within organisations that are responsible for housing, education, employment, income and access to goods and services

• To use mass media, community education and other means to improve the social inclusion of people with experience of mental illness
• To develop specific approaches by Maori, in recognition of their status under the Treaty of Waitangi.
• To address the discrimination faced by Maori with experience of mental illness.
• To develop specific approaches for people from different cultures, ethnic groups and age groups.

• To develop and strengthen infrastructure to improve co-operation and co-ordination to achieve the aims of the project.

Events

The Like Minds, Like Mine campaign organises regular community events throughout the calendar to profile mental health issues, and to promote anti discrimination messages.
Nationally Like Minds, Like Mine is spearheaded by an advertising campaign on television and radio. Behind the scenes, it influences policy-making and takes many initiatives in education, training and changing the attitudes throughout Government, local government, mental health, employment, housing, sport and the law.
