 Peer
Support is a voice at Framework – a voice for service users to have
their say, and a way for us to work in collaboration with service
users. In other words, participation by service users plays a pivotal
role at Framework . It’s a proud tradition, and service users have a
part to play in our strategic direction – in policy development,
business planning and programme development, or, in fact, any Framework
project. Most importantly, service users have the opportunity to
feedback on critical issues, and what’s happening in the wider mental
health sector.
Service users are appointed as Consumer Executive
Committee (CEC) members by nomination from other mental health service
users– and with support from staff . Service users have representation
at all levels of Framework. Our Peer Support Leader reports to a
General Manager, and there is service user representation on our Board
of Trustees, and staff often bring their own life experience of mental
health service usage and mental health recovery to such meetings. The
CEC members represent the interests of Framework at regional consumer
networks, and events. They are the face of Framework, and important
ambassadors for the organisation. Quarterly consumer forums – called
Focus - are an important avenue for social learning and sharing
information. An Open Forum is also held as part of two way
communication, and these will focus on a specific topic to generate
ideas and discussion.
