Our Intensive Support Service (ISS) provides a pre-vocational and
vocational service for service users who are regarded as having high and complex
needs, often with a dual diagnosis of an intellectual disability and a mental
illness. A day service from Monday to Friday, referral and access is through
the Regional Intellectual Disability Care Agency.
Our service
users have a risk assessment to determine their ability to fully participate in
community activities. This then determines the amount of staff support they
require within their pre-vocational programmes. An individualised vocational
management plan is developed which includes risk management, and behaviour
management strategies which best meet the needs of each service user.
All service
users have access to a variety of programmes developed by ISS that are either
in-house or community based. These include literacy and numeracy, woodwork and
mechanical skills, health and fitness, cooking, recreation-based learning,
sports, nature and conservation, music-based learning, computer skills and
personal development.
The
programmes for all our service users are focused on a journey towards independence
and are of a strengths-based approach.
