[ 1 ]   [ 2 ] This studio is my little baby...it keeps me focused and my work here gives each day a structure… “It’s great being here for the guys and building up both their skills and my own.” That’s how Conrad views his role as programme co-ordinator – bone carving at Framework’s Kingsland bone carving studio.

Now recognized as a polished and professional bone carver, Conrad has come a long way in a few short years. From a tentative start with woodworking when he was resident at the Mason Clinic, Conrad now commands respect for his carvings, and for his initiatives in advancing bone carving skills with his team of service users. He’s crossed the bridge from service user to full-time employee.

He’s now expanding options and developing more advanced courses for service users whose bone carving skills are beginning to blossom.

“It was time for me to step up and make both short and long term goals. I’m starting to see the bigger picture and understand there’s usually a reason for me to do things.

“This experience has certainly been a benefit to my mental health. I wanted to better myself with a healthier lifestyle and Framework has definitely given me that chance. Without that support from Framework and the mental health system, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

“Service users need to recognize that support is there to get you back on your feet but you have to work for what you want…it doesn’t get put on a plate.”

Today his progressive carving skills are being passed on to others so they benefit from his creativity, and his motivation to pass on his personal passion.
